| The Abbey
School Choir today consists of sixteen choristers between the ages of 8
and 13, and lay clerks. The Choir sings four services each week in
Tewkesbury Abbey and undertakes a number of external engagements from
time to time. Diversity is at the heart of their work –
recordings, concerts, broadcasts and international tours give breadth
to their musical training. The standard of
chorister training enables the vast majority of boys to win music
scholarships and exhibitions to some of the leading senior independent
schools in the country. Some of the choristers are weekly boarders and
this allows them to benefit from a Choir School education as well as
enjoying family life at weekends. The performing
arts are an important feature in the life of the school. As might be
expected in a Choir School, there are numerous opportunities for
music-making for choristers and non-choristers alike. The majority of
pupils play at least one instrument and there are many different
ensembles for junior and senior pupils which meet and perform regularly
