| The
Alabama Boychoir - USA
The
Alabama Boychoir was founded by Karen Nicolosi in 1985 as a community
organization for talented singers ages 8 through 14. Boys are chosen
for membership in the choir through a series of auditions. When they
are musically and developmentally mature, boys are promoted from the
Resident to the Touring Choir. The Boychoir has grown from 17 charter
members in 1985 to over 200 singers in the five choirs of The Alabama
Choir School. Since
1992, tours have taken the singers to perform in the Washington
National Cathedral, to meet and sing with similar choirs in Toronto,
Ottawa, Chicago and San Francisco, to sing concerts in Englands
Westminster Abbey as well as Canterbury and Coventry Cathedrals, and to
participate in the 1995 Tuscany International Childrens Chorus
Festival in Italy, where they performed in Florence, Pisa and
Rome. The Alabama Boychoir was chosen as the featured choir at
The National Childrens Honor Choir Festival held in Carnegie Hall in
April 1997. Two years later, the Boychoir was one of five choirs
worldwide invited to be guests of the Toronto Childrens Chorus and the
Ottawa Childrens Chorus for a weeklong celebration of their 20th and
40th anniversaries, respectively. 2002 featured a joint tour with
the Girls Tour Choir to Orlando, Florida.
