The
American Boychoir School was
founded in 1937 by Herbert Huffman. it was initially located in
Columbus, Ohio and known as The Columbus Boychoir. A Choir School was
formed two years later. In 1950 the choir joined forces with the
Westminster Choir College (founded by John Finchley Williamson) and
moved to Princeton, New Jersey. The Choir did regular tours and became
the subject of an RKO motion picture 'Americas Singing boys'. The
Shepherd boy Amahl from the television play 'Amahl and the night
visitors' was chosen from The American Boychoir School currently has
around 80 boys aged between 9 and 14 from America and Canada. The boys
form 2 touring choirs and a resident training choir. The choir has
represented the United States at international choir festivals in Riga,
Latvia and in France and more recently participated in a performance of
Brahms Requiem on PBS in memory of the Sept 11th terrorist attack. The
American Boychoir in its premiere in 1951 and for the following 10
years. Among their older recordings is an album of Xmas songs with Bing
Crosby.The choir have a number of popular recordings under the
directorship of James Litton (retired 2001). The current director is
