| The
Archdiocesan Boy Choir of Philadelphia, USA
The Archdiocesan Boy Choir of Philadelphia was
founded by Dr. Peter LaManna in 1969 at the request of His Eminence,
John Cardinal Krol at the suggestion of Father William J. Smith. The
present membership of about eighty boys, ages of 7 to 16, represents
the five county area of the Archdiocese.
In
addition to participation in liturgies at the Cathedral Basilica of
Sts. Peter and Paul and local parishes, the boys maintain an external
concert schedule which has taken them to various parts of the United
States and Canada. In 1995 the choir had the rare and exciting
privilege of singing at the shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, Portugal, for
processions and special masses in which over one-half million pilgrims
participated.
In addition to local television
appearances, the choir has released three recordings on CD/Cassette -
"Songs of the Cherubim" which contains favorite chants, motets, and
choruses of the church, including the Pergulasi Stabat Mater. A
Christmas recording, entitled "Midnight Mass", and just released in
2001, Golden Rose, a Celebration of Eucharistic and Marian
Devotion. Links
