chlapèenský zbor - Bratislava Boys Choir, Slovakia
The Bratislava Boys Choir was founded in 1982 by
Magdaléna Rovňáková. Today, it averages 90 boys
between the ages of 7 and 25, 45 of whom comprise the performing
constituent. The choir has performed works of many important composers
(Bach, Britten, Honegger, Orff, Suchoň, Straviský). It has been
directed by world renowned conducters (Lenárd, Slovák,
Dohnányi, Pešek, Rahbari, Parrot, Hopkins, Muti) and sung
along side famous artists (Peter Dvorský, Jozef Kundlák,
Peter Mikuláš) as well as students from the Conservatory
of Music and the University of Performing Arts in Bratislava (VSMU).
Over
the years, the choir has encountered success at home in Slovakia as
well as abroad. It has performed and competed in places such as France,
Austria, Germany, Japan, the United States and Canada. In Slovakia, it
has received awards at many festivals and held performances across the
country. Also, it has on several occasions been hosted by the yearly
Bratislava Music Celebrations (BHS) festival and appears regularly at
the Opera of the Slovak National Theater (SND).
