Kiwanis
Boys Choir , Canada The
Cambridge Kiwanis Boys Choir was founded in the autumn of 1978 by its
present directors, James and Jean Kropf, to provide musical training
for boys and young men in the City of Cambridge and Region of Waterloo.
This award winning choir is a member of the Royal School Of Church
Music, Choirs Ontario, and the Choristers Guild.
Local
performances are given at senior citizen's residences, nursing homes,
schools, churches, shopping centres, and for civic functions. Major
community concerts are given at Christmas and again in the spring. In
addition, the choir has performed on several occasions in the Centre In
The Square in Kitchener including providing the children's chorus in
Britten's "War Requiem." The boys and young men have performed with
other young choirs throughout Ontario and have also given concerts for
Choirs Ontario, the Kodaly Society Of Ontario, and the Ontario Music
Educator's Association. The choir has performed on local and national
television, and five recordings have been produced.
Concert
tours have included locations such as England, Scotland, Wales,
Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Japan, Quebec City,
Montreal, Moosonee and Moose Factory, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Washington
D.C., and other locations in Canada such as a recent trip to the
Vancouver and Victoria areas of British Columbia. In 2002, the Choir
will visit Windsor and Detroit in April, and also went to New Bunswick
and Prince Edward Island in July. Also, the choir went on a major
excursion to England in the summer of 2003.
