Les Petits Chanteurs de Saint-Marc
are a mixed choir from Lyon, France. The members are pupils at the Maîtrise
de la Basilique de Fourvière. Most sundays they sing at the Cathedrale de
Fourvière. Under their current director Nicolas Porte they have recorded
several albums (details and ordering info at their website). The choir was
chosen for the film 'Les Choristes' which is a remake of the film La Cage
aux Rossignols.
Jean-Baptiste Maunier plays
a lead role in the film and sings the treble solos. Jean-Baptiste was born
on 22th December 1990 in Brignoles. He loves to play tennis and hates rap
music. His father is a cameraman for French television. In the film he
plays the role of Pierre Morhange, one of the more unruly boys that are
tamed by the new teacher Clément Mathieu played by Gérard Jugnot.
Les Choristes (The Chorus) was directed by Christophe
Barratier. The original soundtrack was composed by Bruno Coulais. It was
released in March 2004 and became an instant success in France and is now
being released internationally. Like the original film 'La
Cage aux Rossignols' the story is told in flashback to the year 1948 when
Clément Mathieu arrives at a school for delinquents and finds the regime
repressive. By showing them kindness he gains their respect and is able to
form them into a choir. He also finds the mother of Pierre Morhange,
Viollete and falls in love with her. 2000 francs go missing and a boy is
wrongly accused and sent to prison. Clément Mathieu finds out that the
real thief is ....
