Vienna Boys Choir

Welcome to my website for The Vienna Boys Choir. To learn more about the history of the Wiener Sängerknaben read the articles. Article 1 is from 1954. It contains quotes from father Josef Schnitt, director of the institute during  the second world war and who was imprisoned by the nazis for not allowing the choir to be used  for nazi propaganda. Article 2 is from the 1960s and gives information on the association of other famous musicians such as Bruckner and Schubert with the choir. Article 3 is more up to date being written in 1998, the 500th Anniversary of the Vienna Boys Choir, and is the cover notes to the 'Teddy Bear' compilation CD.

The review section contains reviews of  recordings and concerts. Please email me or use the "add info" button to submit a review or comments on recordings. Most recently added are two concert reviews by Robert Moy.

Treble Soloists (boy sopranos) who have been members of the Wiener Saengerknaben such as Max Cencic, Terry and Lorin Wey have their own pages at boysoprano.org

A discography lists their best CDs currently available as well as a few others.

The gallery contains a few original scans of album covers. Since the 1920's the choir has worn a sailor suit. There are two versions of this suit: a dark blue one (worn for official appearances, at afternoon concerts and most church concerts) and a white one (worn at tour concerts in the evenings).

The Artistic Director, Choirmaster pages currently have information on Helmuth Froschauer, Agnes Grossman & Gerald Wirth
